Some find that contact lenses are a better option for their lifestyle while others find them a pain and still prefer to wear glasses.  Read on to learn more about contact lenses and whether they are right for you.

Not sure what contact lenses are.  They are really thin pieces of plastic worn directly on the eye to correct your vision.  They are perfect for anyone that does not want to wear glasses and does not want or cannot have corrective eye surgery.

Millions of people around the world wear contact lenses.  They are excellent for those that lead very active lives and want the flexibility of excellent vision during circumstances that glasses won’t work or are inconvenient.

Almost everyone is able to wear contact lenses and enjoy the freedom of them.  It starts with an appointment with your eye professional to have your eyes examined and your contact lenses fitted.  The practioner will first determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses, then determine what kind of lenses work for you, and then they will also teach you how to take care of them.

There are two types of contact lenses – soft contacts and rigid gas permeable contacts.  Soft contact lenses are really thin and ever so comfortable to wear.  They are mostly made up of water which is why they are soft.

There are four types of soft contacts – regular also called spherical contacts, contacts for astigmatism, contacts for presbyopia, and colored contacts which are for cosmetic purposes.

Gas permeable lenses are made of hard plastic that gives you crisp clear vision and they correct most vision problems.  They are not quite as comfortable as soft but they fit more eye types.

Some lenses can be worn all day then cleaned.  Others are worn all day and then discarded.  Some lenses can be worn for an entire week before they are thrown away.  Wearing your contacts overnight decreases the amount of oxygen available to the eye which can cause eye irritations.

Contact lenses are medical devises.  Use quality products to clean and care for your lenses, follow your eye practitioner’s instruction, and look great with your new eyes.
